About 4 days ago after only 2 weeks worth of work had managed to turned at one point under 40¢ into over 100$ i managed to sit down for a few hands at these heads up tables and lose everything in about 2 days. So first off let me tell you about me. Im *cough*teen years old and I life in Tampa Florida.
I am as many other people out there who\’s family\’s have been affected by the economy, I like only with my sister who only makes around $1100 a month, every month we receive handouts from a local church but we are not really involved. My father died two years ago and I was doing well up until that point in my life, but I fell into a downward spire of depression and my grades slipped and I lost all hope and missed an entire year of school, I know why I spent so much time wallowing around, My father was My father was Christian and I was sheltered from the world from the time I was born, I now due to my father\’s old trait of adapting well has given me keen vision on what the world around me is. I\’m still in the process of learning these things but I need some help, I think the main reason why I fel, I know I deeply regret the time I lost not being much of a social person but I really didn\’t know how to move on from that type of thing. I still to this day and moment am not sure why I don\’t even have a permit to drive a car or have made much of an effert to do so I\’m So now I\’m back to square 1, but Ive learned from that mistake and I\’m going to try and do it over again. I\’m not exactly a wealthy person either but I would like to give this a try. Its a game unlike no other, it factors in a key element of life as well, the risk reward factor, in the next 4 months I\’d like to see how far I can come as a poker player, starting from the ground up. I started to play around 2 months ago, I was looking around finding ways to make some money online, when I saw surveys it was far too long and the guidelines were less then appealing. So i started playing the play money tables on Pokerstars, after about 2 weeks i thought i could handle real money when i sat on over 400,000 play chips, I was wrong, After about a week I ran my $25 all the way down to nothing. But I tried again, and found the same response, I wasn\’t about to put in another $25 but I loved the game enough to keep playing.
I didn\’t care I was still going to play and try to make something out of this, then I found the freeroll tournaments on fulltilt, I tried every day to get into the prize pool of one of the $100 or $250 american freerolls. Finally with my 1$ in hand after finishing 52nd in the $250 american freeroll I built it up to 17$, but then lost it all playing far higher stakes then i was used to, where I was knocked down by a string of great hands my opponents had, but I knew I could have gotten away from them if I had the knowledge I have now. I\’ve been down to nothing three times and I\’ve learned a lesson each time but now I\’m going to try to make something out of nothing once again.
Day 1- $4.95
I had a few occurances where i was given seemly amazing big pairs, namely AA (I was all in preflop) be beaten by a lonely 8 and a king, with a board reading 8-8-5, looking to try and bring me a miracle I sat awestruck, loosing $1.50 in the hand bringing me down to a little under 4 which was at this point about 45 minutes worth of work hitting cards that could only be beaten by underdogs seems to make me a little jaded of the fact that this is where my biggest (time) downswings came, their are alot of people that play with gut shot straight draws and king high that will move all in to see someone squirm while laughing that they suck.
I don\’t really know how to act to anyone here its so strange to hold Jacks and have to throw it away when you know someone has nothing. when people re-raise I\’m also short stacked 50¢ so I need a premium hand to justify an all in not a coin flip AQ AK.Earlier someone raised 3 times the big blind and the small blind calling I said what heck with A10 and followed in, with a nice 10-3-7 flop i go ahead and and bet less then a third of the pot, in hindsight i should have put in far more to scare away face cards but the guy in front of me folded, and the other guy called, the pot is 26¢ at this point i have another 70¢ the next card was an Ace which gave me a 2 pair. the board now read 10-3-7-A, I raise the pot 10¢ and he re-raises the pot, I\’m not really concerned with a set at this point because he raised with a pair of 5s earlier, so I go ahead and re-raise him, sure enough he pushed all in and I called with 2 pair, the final card comes a King 10-3-7-A-K, I show A10, he shows AK so now I\’m at $3, I really don\’t see the money as money right now I see it as time spent building my bankroll. I cant simply be mad about what happened I made the right play and If I played that hand ten thousand time I would always make more money.
Just called all in with AQ with top pair into a Q 7 suited, with a flush draw only to be beaten by a 7 on the river, I\’m now down less then $2. It frustrates me to no end how many times I\’m knocked down due to pure luck, I noticed that I win more in higher and higher stakes because people understand the game more and are more likely to be outplayed. Bluffing at this level is a mixed bag its only really good for picking up small pots and I\’ve made big raises on the river after when I\’ve bet on the flop and turn (with a straight flush draw) to be beaten by a pair of 2s. I\’m not sure who has a set and who\’s betting the pot with only top pair, 0and in the instance I\’m right I lose anyway. Just lost again after moving all in with a set of 8s to an AK with a gut shot straight draw who picked it up on the river (I\’m not doing too well today) , down another 50¢. At this point I can only hope luck doesn\’t turn on me again because at this point I can\’t really survive any more bad beats.
After another 3 hours I finally end the day with $6.68 after working my way up from $1.50, got some big pocket pairs, 4 pairs of Kings, 2 of which I had to fold but the others landed me some solid money. Also managed to find a good tight table where I could bluff and get away with it so that was nice. I just hope I can start out positive tomorrow and not just have to grind back to where I started.
